Dinner in the Hamptons with Jonathan Simkhai

Jun 12, 2017

In case you haven't heard, we kicked off summer in the best way possible—with bikinis and parties, of course. INTERMIX's new Summer Shop just launched online and in our Southampton store, and we celebrated this weekend with a chic poolside soirée hosted by none other than Jonathan Simkhai.
From the food to the wine to the sunset, we celebrated in style with some of our favorite editors, including Nikki Ogunnaike from Elle, Alyssa Vingan Klein from Fashionista, Gabby Prescod from Bustle, Aemilia Madden from Who What Wear and Ray Lowe from Refinery 29. Between sips of rosé, we asked Jonathan (pictured below with his fiancé, T.J. Allers) a few questions about his just–launched swimwear collection, Swimkhai.

Discover everything you need for the beach and beyond in our Swim Shop >>

Tell us about your new swimwear collection. What was the inspiration behind the styles?
For my summer swim collection I was inspired by the pastel hues of the beaches in the Caribbean. I'm always drawn to clean silhouettes with interesting design details like unexpected cutouts or a romantic ruffle.

What do you think is the secret to creating a chic beach–ready look?
I love a coordinated look on the beach! When you throw on a pair of chic pants that match your swimsuit perfectly, it's an effortless look that can go from the ocean to cocktails.

Who is the Swimkhai girl?
The Swimkhai girl never wants summer to end.

What's your favorite trend this summer?
It's so hard to choose, but I love a chambray–printed swimsuit.

What's your favorite beach in the world and why?
Harbour Island in the Bahamas is heaven.

You spend quite a bit of time out East—do you have any hidden spots you love?
I'm always at Pierre's in Bridgehamton and the Surf Lodge in Montauk.

If you had to choose on person to wear a piece from your swim collection and spend a day in the Hamptons with, who would it be?
My childhood friend, Olivia Palermo.

What are your beach day essentials?
Ray–Bans, a good book and a cold glass of rosé.
